The assault took place on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Guyaku village, Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Armed gunmen reportedly stormed the area and opened fire indiscriminately on civilians, including youths gathered at a local football pitch.
Witnesses said the attack lasted for hours, leaving multiple casualties and causing widespread destruction and panic among residents.
The terrorist group, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), claimed responsibility in a statement released via Telegram on Monday, April 27.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who visited the affected community, confirmed the casualty figure, stating that “no fewer than 29” people lost their lives. He strongly condemned the attack and assured citizens of intensified efforts to tackle insecurity and bring those responsible to justice.
