Veteran Nollywood actor Sylvester Madu, widely known for his “Shina Rambo” roles, has responded to viral criticism after a video showed him selling clothing items at a local market in Enugu.
The footage, which circulated widely on social media, captured the actor arranging and selling thrift fashion items—popularly referred to as okrika—sparking mixed reactions online. While some users praised his work ethic, others questioned why a well-known actor would engage in street-level trading.
In a swift response, Madu dismissed the backlash and clarified that his business goes beyond what many perceived. Sharing a video from London, he revealed he was on a trip to source fresh inventory, which he intends to ship back to Nigeria for resale.
According to the actor, the items he sells are not ordinary second-hand clothes but carefully selected quality pieces purchased during sales abroad. He stressed that his venture is a structured business operation, not a sign of decline in his acting career.
Madu also used the opportunity to address critics directly, urging them to “keep talking” while he continues to expand his hustle. He emphasized the importance of dignity in labour, encouraging young Nigerians to pursue legitimate means of income rather than relying on handouts or social media validation.
The actor further noted that many public figures diversify their income streams, insisting that being in the entertainment industry does not preclude engaging in other profitable ventures.
Despite the online reactions, Madu remains unapologetic, reaffirming pride in his work and commitment to building a sustainable business alongside his acting career.
