Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has revealed that 70 percent of new businesses in Lagos are founded by youths, highlighting their critical role in the state’s economic growth.

The governor made this known at the Abuja Dialogue themed “Scaling Excellence: Youth Leadership as Strategic Infrastructure for National Transformation.”

According to him, young people are not just participants but key drivers of innovation and entrepreneurship in Lagos, contributing significantly to economic development.

Sanwo-Olu disclosed that Lagos youths contribute an estimated ₦4.5 trillion annually to the state’s GDP, describing their impact as measurable and transformative.

“These are not figures of potential; they are figures of performance,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of continued investment in youth development.

The governor also highlighted initiatives like the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, aimed at building leadership capacity and preparing young Nigerians for governance and national development.

He called for stronger collaboration across all levels of government to create systems that will empower young people and sustain long-term national growth.

The remarks reinforce growing recognition of youths as a major force in Nigeria’s economic transformation, particularly in Lagos, the country’s commercial hub.
