The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that its planned national convention is under threat following claims that the management of Rainbow Event Centre is being pressured to withdraw from hosting the event.
In a statement on Monday, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi said the party had fulfilled all financial and contractual obligations required to secure the venue and had already commenced preparations for the convention scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
According to Abdullahi, the owner of the event centre informed the party that he had come under pressure from the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, with threats that the facility’s licence could be revoked if it proceeds to host the ADC gathering.
The ADC described the alleged move as an attempt to intimidate opposition voices, insisting that it had acted within the law and would not be deterred.
“We have already signed a valid contract and met all requirements. We will hold our convention tomorrow as planned at the Rainbow Event Centre,” Abdullahi stated, reaffirming the party’s resolve.
He further criticized what he described as “creeping tyranny,” vowing that the party would not succumb to political pressure or intimidation.
