Hundreds of youths, residents, and indigenous people of Eha Alumona in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State have called on the state government and elected representatives to urgently intervene in the deteriorating condition of their community.
The youths, who turned out in large numbers during a peaceful awareness campaign, lamented the poor state of infrastructure in the area, including dilapidated roads, neglected schools, and an abandoned Primary Healthcare Centre.
Speaking during the exercise, community members stated that they would no longer support politicians based on campaign promises alone. Instead, they vowed to vote only for candidates who visit the community, engage directly with residents, and commit to specific developmental projects through clear agreements.
According to them, fixing the community’s road network, rehabilitating schools, and restoring healthcare services remain their top priorities.
As part of their advocacy, the youths toured various parts of Eha Alumona, documenting the condition of roads, educational facilities, and other public infrastructure through photographs and videos. They said the exercise was aimed at drawing the attention of the Enugu State Government and relevant authorities to the challenges facing the community.
The group appealed to Governor Peter Mbah, lawmakers representing the area, and other political office holders to come to their aid and address years of neglect.
They maintained that meaningful development, rather than political rhetoric, would determine their support in future elections.
