The leadership of the Mgbakwu Progressive Union has issued a strong disclaimer and petition demanding justice over the killing of a man identified as Chinyeaka Ike, popularly known as “Akidi” in Mgbakwu, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

In a statement signed by the President General of Mgbakwu, Hon. Basil Chukwu Nwokeoma, the union rejected reports alleging that the deceased was confronting a “SASA operation” before he was killed.

The community described the narrative as “false, misleading, and deliberately concocted,” insisting that Akidi was unarmed, on his own property, and posed no threat to anyone at the time of the incident.

The union accused those behind the claims of attempting to criminalize the deceased in order to shield those responsible for the killing from accountability.

According to the statement, the people of Mgbakwu, including eyewitnesses, reject the circulating account in its entirety and are demanding an independent, transparent, and impartial investigation into the incident.

The community further called for the identification, suspension, and prosecution of all officers allegedly involved, pending the outcome of investigations, as well as a public retraction of the narrative currently being circulated.

The union also expressed concern over comments made by social media content creator, Ikenga Iruagu, accusing him of spreading unverified claims and misinformation about the incident.

“Mgbakwu will not be used as a theatre for propaganda, nor will we stand by while falsehood is weaponized to shield perpetrators of injustice,” the statement read.

The community urged the Anambra State Government and relevant authorities to act swiftly and transparently, insisting that justice must prevail.
