President Donald Trump has announced that Iran has reopened the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping, marking a major shift after weeks of tension and disruption in the region.
In a statement on Friday, Trump said the strategic waterway is now “completely open” for passage, linking the development to ongoing ceasefire arrangements and sustained U.S. pressure.
The announcement follows confirmation from Iranian Foreign Minister that the strait has been opened during the current ceasefire period, allowing vessels to resume movement through one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.
Early ship-tracking data indicates a gradual return of traffic, while oil prices have reacted by easing as supply concerns begin to ease.
Diplomatic sources indicate the reopening is tied to the ceasefire and may still face operational challenges, including security enforcement and clearance of potential hazards in the waterway.
