The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has intensified efforts to reform the Nigeria Police Force by engaging international development partners and diplomatic stakeholders in a high-level dialogue aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and modern policing standards.
The strategic meeting, held on Tuesday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja in collaboration with the Police Reform Secretariat (PRS), brought together representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UN Women, the British High Commission, and the governments of Germany, Spain, and Slovakia, alongside other organisations supporting police reforms in Nigeria.
Speaking during the engagement, IGP Disu reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to building a modern, professional, intelligence-led, and accountable institution anchored on the rule of law, human rights, and community partnership.
He explained that the ongoing reform agenda is designed to transform the Force into a technology-driven and citizen-focused institution capable of tackling emerging security challenges across the country.
Also speaking at the dialogue, Olu Ogunsakin highlighted major focus areas of the reform programme, including legal and policy reforms, election security management, leadership development, stakeholder engagement, oversight mechanisms, and community trust-building initiatives.
According to him, sustained collaboration with international partners remains critical to achieving long-term policing reforms and improving institutional effectiveness within the Force.
The IGP further assured stakeholders that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to transparency, professionalism, discipline, and measurable reforms that align with global best practices while addressing Nigeria’s unique security realities.
