The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has initiated plans to establish a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Ogun State as part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening police education nationwide.

The decision followed a high-level strategic meeting held on Monday at the Federal Ministry of Education, where key stakeholders also mapped out plans to upgrade and secure accreditation for 42 police colleges across the country.

The meeting was hosted by the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Said Ahmad. Also in attendance was former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, underscoring the national importance of the initiative.

Discussions at the meeting focused on infrastructure development and strategic collaboration with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund to facilitate the construction of modern learning facilities. Stakeholders also engaged with the National Universities Commission (NUC) to ensure proper resource verification and compliance with accreditation standards.

According to officials, a clear timeline has been set for the Ogun State Police Academy campus to commence operations in the 2026 academic session.

IGP Disu reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to professional excellence, noting that reforming police training institutions is critical to building a modern and service-driven force. He emphasized that integrating academic rigor with tactical training will better equip officers to address evolving security challenges with integrity and efficiency.
