Human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has dismissed claims circulating on social media that he endorsed a second term for Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, clarifying that his comments were misrepresented.

In a statement addressing the controversy, Adeyanju said supporters of Governor Adeleke had shared a clip from his interview out of context to suggest he praised the administration’s performance. He urged the public to watch the full interview to understand his position.

According to him, his remarks were a broader criticism of governance across Nigeria. He stated that not only the Osun governor, but also Alex Otti and other current state governors, have failed to justify the allocations received from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

Adeyanju argued that no state in Nigeria can be described as truly developed, despite the significant resources allocated to subnational governments over the years. He questioned the credibility of leading political figures, noting that many who are considered front runners at the national level were unable to deliver meaningful development in their respective states.

He further asserted that, given the scale of funds received by governors since 1999, Nigeria should have witnessed transformation comparable to global cities like Dubai. He also claimed that some former governors, despite receiving far less funding, performed better than many of their successors.

The activist additionally criticized the impact of fuel subsidy removal, alleging that it primarily benefits state governors rather than the broader economy or citizens. He linked this to the recent wave of political defections across the country.
