The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed circulating rumors about insecurity at some examination centres in North Central Nigeria ahead of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, described the claims as unfounded, reassuring candidates, parents, and the general public of adequate security arrangements for the examination scheduled to commence on April 16.

According to the police, comprehensive measures have been put in place nationwide to guarantee the safety of candidates and ensure a smooth exercise. These include the deployment of additional personnel to examination centres, both visibly and covertly, as well as routine patrols, perimeter surveillance, and the positioning of rapid response teams at strategic locations.

The Force also disclosed that it is working in close collaboration with other security agencies to monitor and promptly address any potential threats. It warned that individuals or groups attempting to disrupt the examination process would be swiftly apprehended and prosecuted.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the NPF urged candidates to arrive early at their designated centres, comply with examination guidelines, and report any suspicious activities to security personnel on ground.

The police further advised members of the public to ignore unverified information circulating on social media and rely only on official communication from the authorities.
