In a swift and decisive operation, Nigerian troops stationed at 9th Mile in Enugu State came to the rescue of five kidnapped victims on the evening of Thursday, 20 February, after repelling a brazen attack by suspected armed criminals on commuters travelling towards Anambra State.

The attack unfolded at approximately 6:55 p.m. when security forces received a distress call and immediately moved to intercept the assailants.

On arrival, the troops engaged the attackers in a fierce gun duel, firing 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition before forcing the criminals to abandon their victims and flee into the surrounding bushes.

All five kidnapped persons were rescued alive, and the vehicle belonging to the victims was also recovered — a significant outcome in what could have ended in tragedy.

This operation is a testament to the courage and rapid-response capability of the troops deployed in the region.

At a time when highway insecurity remains a serious concern for travellers across the South-East, this intervention sent a clear message that criminal elements will be met with force and resolve.
